Hyundai Vietnam car sales up 19% in 11 months

South Korean automaker Hyundai sold 72,037 cars in Vietnam in the first 11 months of the year, up 18.66% year-on-year, according to a report by Hyundai Thanh Cong.
B-class sedan Hyundai Accent topped the sales list with 19,716 units in January-November, including 2,097 in November, followed by Hyundai Creta, a sport utility vehicle (SUV), with corresponding figures of 10,219 and 1,237 .
Other top-selling models in the first 11 months featured Hyundai Grand i10, a sedan, with 9,566; SUV Hyundai SantaFe with 9,653; and another SUV, Hyundai Tucson, with 7,714 units.
Hyundai Stargazer, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) which the automaker started selling this October, recorded sales of 522 units in a month.
The company’s sales in November rose 14 units year-on-year to 7,543.
Hyundai Thanh Cong, a joint venture between Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor and Vietnamese firm Thanh Cong Group, launched its second manufacturing facility in Vietnam last month.
The new plant, which covers 50 hectares in Gian Khau Industrial Park in the northern province of Ninh Binh, has a designed capacity of 100,000 cars per year, raising the joint venture’s total annual capacity to 180,000 units.
Hyundai then announced the factory would assemble electric vehicle Ioniq 5 from July 2023 and the hybrid version of Santa Fe from this month.
The total sales of Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) members, which do not include VinFast and Hyundai, increased 52% year-on-year to 332,963 in the first 10 months of the year.
